[he hadn't seen them, though. If he hadn't died, he'd have written the idea off, though he still wasn't entirely sure he did actually die. He wasn't sure what to think.]
Thing is, I haven't seen them since we got back.
No, didn't get hurt, just wet. ... What about you?
A little burned...? [the suspicion in his voice is unmistakable. He pauses, the silence heavy, and then there's a sound, likely him flopping back onto his bed.] ... Did you heal it or get healed, at least?
What happened? [because if he asked her about what happened, she wouldn't ask him. For once in his life, he was grateful for the distance that audio provided him.
He cared about Korra, but he felt absolutely no desire to talk to anyone else that wasn't his brother.]
The burns? [There's an exasperated tone to her voice now.] It was...really stupid. When we got inside, it was dark, so... I bended a little fire to give us some light.
I think there was something wrong with the air. The fire kind of...ex...ploded on us.
[there's a long pause, while he gives the phone an incredulous look. He couldn't think of anything that would have that sort of reaction-- and he would have done the same thing]
What happened to being honest? [he asks the phone tiredly. In fact, he was way too tired to argue with her. He just looks up at the ceiling of his room, trying to think of a way to defuse the frustration he was feeling] I would've done the same thing. Started an explosion, I mean.
We found a crazy eyeless girl who had a raven that liked eating eyes. [Mako says after a long pause.] She wanted one of us to stay with her forever, and Sonia almost volunteered.
[he frowns at the ceiling, and weighs what to say in his head]
Well… yeah. We’re all here now, except for the guys I told you about earlier. So we must have been thrown out. [congrats on that non-answer, Mako. But at the same time, what he said wasn’t false, either.]
No, just the riverway that ended up flooding. It was a pretty short trip, all things considered.
[well, that's that. She wasn't pushing, and he wasn't planning on elaborating]
I'm not sure what she was guarding, but it must've been important, even though she acted like she was really lonely. Who knows, maybe she actually was. I wasn't inclined to trust her.
Yeah. Whatever she used though, it kind of reminded me of... I don't know, dark spirits? One minute she was just a girl, the next she had these extra appendages. If we ever did go back, we'd have to be on guard for them.
later that evening
Made it out okay, but two of the people with us didn't.
audio;
One of the guys in my group didn't make it out either. But he was already revived by the time we got back, so the two you were with must be, too.
[More softly: ] Were you injured? Be honest.
audio;
Thing is, I haven't seen them since we got back.
No, didn't get hurt, just wet. ... What about you?
audio;
One of my hands got... a little burned. It's not that bad.
[Korra, what happened to "be honest"...]
Re: audio;

[And then she sighs softly.]
It might take a few more sessions before it's completely healed.
[She would've just tried to wave it off more, but Mako's not exactly going to buy it if he sees the bandages.]

[And guess who was closest to it...]

And just your hand got burned?
1/2

Not...exactly. But I already healed those, sooooooo... it's okay.
can't stop won't stop
But we had enough light to go around.
how rude
It's--I didn't say anything because they were already healed.
[No point in worrying him even more. And she's grateful for the slight topic change.]
Did you guys end up finding anything in there?

audio;
But--she didn't. Right?

[She’s getting a bad feeling about this already.]

Did you guys run into anything else before the girl?
no subject
[well, that's that. She wasn't pushing, and he wasn't planning on elaborating]
I'm not sure what she was guarding, but it must've been important, even though she acted like she was really lonely. Who knows, maybe she actually was. I wasn't inclined to trust her.

I'm glad you guys didn't run into anything else. Usually the trips into the store are a lot worse.
[Looks like the message about the Store being weaker that they'd pieced together had been accurate after all.]
I wouldn't have trusted her either. Even if you agreed to stay, who knows if she'd actually let the rest of you go?
no subject
And don't let people volunteer to stay with her.
no subject
Sounds like she was trying to hide what she really looks like.
[Which isn't suspicious at all, right?]
You're right. If we run into her again, we'll have to be careful. I don't like the sound of this at all.
