To an extent, yeah. But like you, I never really had much of an opportunity to practice it, so I'm super rusty.

Yeah... I can read and speak just fine, though sometimes I come across a word I don't know. So I guess I wouldn't consider myself fluent.

There's a local paper in Mandarin. I picked it up a lot when I was a kid and just struggled through it.

It was probably one of the better distractions I had.

Oh, man... I can't imagine how hard that must've been. Newspapers aren't easy to read in a foreign language.

But... I had pretty bad foster parents growing up. So, it was either deal with them or try to read about business trades in Chinese.

That's still really cool, that you taught yourself the language. I don't think I could do that.

It's my first language, actually. We spoke it more at home with my parents than English. But yeah.
